Mr. Christensen's 3rd Grade Class
What We're Working On
I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I Think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. I KNEW I COULD!
Wonders Reading Program

Our Language Arts program is called Wonders. This reading program helps the students to dive deeper into the literature and do more Close Reading of the materials. It is full of fun stories, and has an awesome online component to help with writing, vocabulary, spelling, grammar and research.

iReady Math Home Letters
Third grade is an exciting year of new math concepts. Here is an example from each chapter of how we will do some of the math problems here at school. Scroll through me to see each chapter.
These letters are currently the old GoMath letters. They are very similar to what we are learning in our new iReady math program. The new letters will be posted soon.
Classroom Rules

We have 5 important classroom rules that must be remembered. We will be reciting these on a daily basis for the first few weeks of school.

1. Follow Directions Quickly
2. Raise Your Hand To Speak
3. Make Smart Choices
4. Do Your Best
5. Keep Your Dear Teacher Happy

If the first four rules on our list are followed, rule number five happens naturally. When the first four rules are broken, then as a teacher I am not happy. It is my responsibility to teach your child and every other child in my classroom. The happier I am, the better I can do my job.
Science + Social Studies
This year we are learning about gravity & our solar system in our Wonders program and how they are related. We also discuss communities & civilizations in our Social Studies lessons.
We have some "out of this world" positives at Diamond Ridge that your child will be working towards. Please talk to them about all the wonderful positives & how they work.

Book Reports- There are 3 major book reports assigned each year.
Mathematics
We will be using the assessment information from our Progress Monitoring Assessments and Benchmark Assessments to create differentiated learning group.
Also...please feel free to have your student work on any of the GoMath games that have been assigned to them at home, and look for the enrichment assignments on the ThinkCentral website to access deeper level math sheets your child may practice at home.

We will begin the year with our unit on Traits. We also study topics such as Living and Non-Living, Gravity, Force and Motion, Life Cycles, Weather and other fun topics.
